California OSHA Standard’s Board Approves Petition for Mandatory Smoke Evacuation

After an initial veto of smoke removal legislation by Governor Brown, the legislation was diverted to the California OSHA Standard’s Board at the Governor’s suggestion who opined that legislation was not the right pathway. The Board’s conclusion was to approve the petition for mandatory smoke evacuation in the State and passed it on to the Rules committee for further consideration. Their decision is expected to take six months but it is anticipated that they will require a 90% minimum smoke capture efficiency consistent with the ISO 16571:2014 guideline.
